Past the Point of If or When…

Just another WordPress.com weblog

Partners for Youth with Disabilities, Inc. (PYD) is committed to empowering young people with disabilities to reach their full potential. They do this by providing high quality one-to-one and group mentoring programs where caring adults act as positive role models and provide support, understanding and guidance for youth as they strive to reach their personal, educational and career goals.

Besides their mentor-mentee match making they have an after school theater program, host parent groups in Boston and Springfield, train interested participants in a peer leadership program, and put on a Project Adventure program.

One of their programs that peaked my interest was the Young Entrepreneurs Project,  a career development program for urban youth with disabilities and their peers without disabilities. YEP curriculum uses a comprehensive approach to learning that takes participants through the entire process of starting a small business, with supplemental activities designed to explore career options, develop key job skills, and prepare students for the work force.

I’d also like to highlight their “Making Healthy Connections” program which is a series of interactive discussions and recreational activities designed to help adolescents and young adults with disabilities and special health needs prepare for adult life.

One of just the many programs that Mass Mentoring Partnership helps fund, just sayin =) Support programs like this through sponsoring my Boston Marathon Run for Mentoring!
